How to wear maxi and midi skirts

 MAXIS

Top- £5 republic sale

1. keep it simple with block colours and tight fitting or cropped tops. If your maxi is tight then a loose top will be fine but nothing that hides your figure as the skirt is already obviously quite covering.

2. Black thick waistbands draw attention to your slimmest part whilst neutral colours such as grey don't draw any attention to areas you want to hide

 3. For coloured maxis dare to wear with clashing print crops and add a brown or black simple belt to seperate the two styles. keep all other accesories plain for exampple black heel and a black clutch for the evening

 4. wear with coats and jackets that end at roughly the same place as the skirt starts, maxis don't work as well with long winter coats as they tend to hide your figure, stick to cropped jackets for high waisted skirts

 5. DON'T feel as though they are only to be worn in the daytime! A block colour maxi would look great with a sparkly top and heels and if you still feel you want to show more skin you can find sheer maxi skirts like this one and side split maxi skirts like this one

 6. mix patterns of the same colour in the top and skirt for example here i have picked out the black from the skirt and teamed with my black lace top for a unique daytime look. if you are sticking to black brighten it up with jewellery and eye catching accesories

MIDIS

 1. Similarly to patterned maxi skirts, pick out the dominant colours in the skirt and use this to base the rest of your outfit around. This outfit could be paired with a black jacket and blue shoes for a statement matchy-matchy look. This patterned midi is perfect

2. unlike with the maxis, midis show a little more skin so don't be put off by the length of the skirt, it can still be worn with your cosy wooly jumper without hiding your figure completely

 3. Either stick to cropped tops and jumpers or full length tops that can be tucked inside the skirt unnoticably for a less casual look.
 4. If the skirt is lightly patterned don't be afraid to wear a top with a design on as long as it doesnt steal the attention from the skirt and is in the same colour scheme
 5. Make sure that you can walk in your skirt as, no matter how perfect your outfit is, waddling around all day because your skirt doesnt stretch or have a split is not a good look.

 6. For a sleek, attention-grabbing evening look keep the top and heels fairly simple and add a statement necklace

 7. to test out whether a midi skirt would suit you, or if you simply don't wish to buy a new one, try using a stretch strapless bodycon dress as i have below. The length allows me to wear it high waisted with it ending just above the knee and the tight fit means it will fit to the shape of you legs and bum.

Indo-Western

Upon researching for Indian fashion designers and costume designers for my new project I have fallen in love with the detailing and combination of styles used in indo-western clothing. Designers like Ritu Kumar have high street lines aimed at international customers fusing traditional indian textile techniques with silhouettes and trends from Europe and America. Whilst searching for indian fabrics i came across a beautiful homemade sari in a charity shop and the top can be seen in the first few photos. I have chosen to pair the pink and green silk top with my matte leggings to further emphasise the clash between the two styles and to bring out the bright colour and machine work in the top. Furthermore I found this tunic/dress at a market stall in France for 5 euros and fell in love with its paisley print design and silk-feel fabric. Look out for brightly coloured fabrics and intricate designs as they will really add something to your wardrobe even if you only use it as a scarf or tie on your bag

Throughout the aautum and winter it's easy to get into the habit of dressing to the weather, and I don't mean wooly jumper and tights I mean wearing greys and blacks to match the sky and rainy weather. If you're struggling to keep your wardrobe from going to the dark side just add a touch of glamour and glitz to every outfit with a splash of glitter. I've chosen to match my cropped velvet glitter crop with aviator and full skirt for an autumnal daytime look. I also have chosen my new hot pink beaded top and forest green velvet skirt for a casual yet fun look that could be worn with tights and boots in the day or with heels in the evening. If you don't feel confident with this look just yet keep it subtle with a sparkly necklace or shoes; or belt as i have done above. Makeshift Cami

Cami tops are the most recent must have item in your wardrobe and understandably too. Not only are the femenine, fun and relatively cheap but they can be worn with almost anything. After looking into buying one myself it dawned on me that i already had a vest top from a few years ago that has the same look; so to add a little more glamour I have worn my lace bandeau underneath so that it can be seen on the neckline. Wear your cami with a wooly cardigan and jeans for the cooler days or with a tight fitting midi skirt and heels for the evening. Most of the high street shope have them in stock this season in a variety of materials and designs and topshop has some really interesting ones that can be found here.
